Sterling Silver Vase by Tapio Wirkkala for Kultakeskus
Description
This sterling silver vase, designed in 1954 by Tapio Wirkkala and made by Kultakeskus Oy in 1959. Oval in shape, it has two side fillets that taper upwards. Finished with outward-curving lips. Model TW 36, mass-produced in a unique size of 19 cm. This early example is fully hallmarked and in good original condition. However, it has three slight defects of use, visible only after careful examination. This does not detract from its overall elegance. Hallmarks: TW (Tapio Wirkkala), 916H (916/1000 silver), Kultakeskus Oy (reclining lion), Finnish National Control (heart crown), year 1959 (F7) and Hämeenlinna (three stylized towers). This vase, both functional and timeless, embodies the innovative legacy of Tapio Wirkkala, an iconic figure in Finnish design. From furniture to glass, sculpture and jewellery. He has received prestigious accolades, including three gold medals at the Milan Triennale, the Lunning Prize and the Pro Finland and Prince Eugen medals.
